The Dream

I feel myself walking down the street
A strange sensation is felt in my hand
I look down to see a second shadow at my feet
For a split second I'm confused & don't understand
I feel at peace and truly happy for the first time
I soon realize what has happened to me
It is you I feel, it is your hand in mine
It is your shadow walking beside me
You are there everywhere I go, you are within
I can sense you when I'm sleeping every night
You visit me in my dreams that's how it's been
I feel you & I know things will be alright
I often wonder if you feel me too
I imagine myself there each day
To hold, comfort and support you
What would it be like to say "I'm on my way"
Can these things really happen to me
Are the feeling we have for real
Can it be you're the one to set me free
When I awake how will you feel
You cannot just exist in my dreams
And if you do I don't want to awake
I know the decision is mine it seems
If this is only a dream my heart will break
