The Dry Vivarium for ground Dwelling species ( I )

  • Ventilation: Open top or gauze cover.

  • Substrate: A layer of sand  3 - 10 cm. deep . Part of the substrate should be kept constantly moist.

  • Furnishings: Rocks , roots , branches , pieces of cork bark for hiding places.

  • Plants: Not necessary , but succulents may be used.

  • Species: Ground-dwelling or burrowing species which do not have clinging lamellae.

 

The Dry Vivarium for Cliff Dwelling Species (II)

  • Ventilation: At the side and on the top of the Vivarium.

  • Substrate: A layer of sand 1 -3 cm. deep.

  • Furnishings: Flat rocks stacked against the rear wall in such a way that crevices are provided . Some flat rocks leaning against the side walls. 

  • Plants: Not necessary but succulents may be used.

  • Species: Geckoes which live on rocky cliff faces in the dry and desert regions of the world.

 

The Planted Vivarium ( III )

  • Ventilation: On the side and top of the Vivarium.

  • Substrate: A layer of potting compost or bark mulch 3 cm. deep.

  • Furnishings: Several pieces of hollow cork bark on the ground as hiding places. Several upright sturdy braches.

  • Plants: Any plants originating from the regions of the species to be kept.

  • Species: Geckoes which do not live in either deserts or rain forests.

 

The Rain Forest Vivarium ( IV )

  • Ventilation: Small ventilation panels below the front glass panel and on top of the Vivarium.

  • Substrate: A layer of potting compost or hydro-ponic culture balls several centimeters deep.

  • Furnishings: The side and rear walls should be covered with cork tiles or bark. Several stout , upright branches or some stout bamboo poles which are especially suitable for Phelsuma species.

  • Plants: Robust , bushy plants . In larger vivaria epiphytes , orchids and Tillandsia species can be attached to the stout , upright branches.

  • Species: Geckos from the tropical rain forests.

 

The Moist Vivarium ( V )

  • Ventilation: Small to medium ventilation panels ( varies according to species to be kept ) below the front glass panel and on top of the Vivarium.
