Teratoscincus roborowski

Housing

Frog Eye geckos can be housed in "Rubbermaid" shoebox size containers in a rack system with the back quarter of the box heated by heat tape. Substrates preferred are sand and/or preferably "Calci Sand" . This calcium sand is extremely valuable to female frog eye during the egg laying season. Calcium levels in the geckos are critical to egg formation and health of the offspring. Three to four inches of substrate should be adequate. Each gecko requires its own hide box. Another method to keeping Frog Eye geckos is a terrarium type setup. A ten gallon aquarium would be adequate for a pair. About 8-10 inches of sand is used for the substrate. Place two inch PVC pipe into the sand. Pour water into the PVC pipe to wet the bottom half of the substrate. The geckos will burrow into the moist sand and build a network of tunnels. Frog Eye geckos do not need UVA or UVB light since they are nocturnal. An under tank heater or heat tape can be used during the winter months under half of the container.

Feeding

Frog eye geckos eat primarily crickets. Make sure your crickets are no larger than the geckos head. A calcium/mineral supplement should be dusted onto the feeder insects. Geckos can be fed every other day. They are very active feeders and a delight to watch.
